India may not have given the regulatory nod to cryptocurrencies, but it is making sure that its police is trained in handling cryptocurrency related crimes. In a new filing on the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) National Police Academy website, the government is inviting nominations from each state/union territory to attend the two-day course titled ‘Investigation of Cases involving Crypto Currencies’.
The training will be held in the SVP National Police Academy in Hyderabad from September 5-6, 2019. The stated objectives of the course are:
- Introduction to functioning of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology
- Legal aspects of cryptocurrencies
- Crimes committed using cryptocurrencies
- Investigation of cases involving cryptocurrencies
While cryptocurrency trading has been partly squeezed in India through the RBI banking ban, the country has also been the hotbed of crypto crimes such as the infamous GainBitcoin scam and connections to the Bitconnect scam.
